Dear Bishop Martino,
Our foundation thought you might enjoy this film. We certainly found it very interesting. It is a moving testimony to the faith and commitment of a group of five men who began an effort that would ultimately save the church.
As we continue our work for the Diocesan Pastoral Planning project, “Called to Holiness and Mission”, and anxiously await your final decision in January 2009, I once again regret missing the opportunity to apply for two grants this month.
The Keystone Historic Preservation Grant, funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, was due on May 1, 2008 (Minimum Grant: $5,000; Maximum Grant: $100,000). Per the architect firm of Eyerman, Csala, Hapeman & Handman, who completed the study on our church in May 2002, Sacred Heart of Jesus church would be considered an “eligible building.”
The Save America’s Treasures Grant, funded by the National Park Service, was due on May 20, 2008. These grants are available for preservation and/or conservation work on nationally significant and cultural artifacts and collections and on nationally significant historic properties. Historic properties and collections associated with active religious organizations are eligible to apply for these grants. The estimated total program funding is $11,000,000, and the maximum individual award is $700,000. Applications for both of these grants have to be made and signed by the owner of the property.
God willing (and Bishop willing) maybe we could apply next year.
Also enclosed is a newspaper article you may find interesting. You received some positive publicity.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
