Subject: Restoration of Sacred Heart Church
Dear Msgr. Sempa,
I was very impressed with the presentation by Carl Handman and Jeff Erdly at Tuesday's Parish Meeting to review their studies and proposals for the subject restoration. They clearly demonstrated a clear understanding of the history of the church and the causes of the observed deterioration and damage. It is apparent that the remedial work they are proposing will be a major undertaking for both their firms, and the parish.
Assuming that the parish will commit to this project to preserve this historic church, the parish will need professional representation to negotiate and enter into contracts with architects and contractors, and to review and approve their work. Also, a Field Engineer will be required, at least on a part-time basis, to address and quickly resolve any questions or problems discovered during the course of the work. In restoration projects such as this, unforeseen conditions and damage will be constantly discovered. An Owner's Representative will need to evaluate the situation and issue prompt instructions in order to avoid delays and unnecessary costs.
As I mentioned to you after the meeting, I am a licensed Professional Engineer in Civil and Structural Engineering. Since graduating from MIT with both my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Civil Engineering and Construction Management, I have worked in project management and project engineering capacities for over 25 years. I am presently self-employed as a consulting engineer, and therefore have a certain degree of flexibility in my work schedule. I would like to offer my services to this project, pro-bono, as the Parish Project Manager, to negotiate supervise, and coordinate the work of the Architects and Contractors, and to ensure that the needs of the parish are met. I would be delighted to meet with you and others in the Parish to discuss this further.
Best regards,
Anthony S. Foti, P.E. |
