In establishing the formula to calculate the School Subsidy Assessment for all parishes, the diocese imposed a $50,000 Cap on the change in the School Subsidy Assessment from the amount actually paid in the 2005 -2006 base year, and the School Subsidy Assessment for the 2007 - 2008 year. Of the 215 parishes in the diocese, 32 were affected by this cap. The table below shows the affect of this cap on the 32 parishes.
Eighteen (18) parishes were adversely affected, in that there assessment increased above the standard 25% assessment rate. Fourteen (14) parishes benefited from this cap, in that there assessment was reduced below the standard 25% assessment rate.
Of the parishes adversely affected, Sacred Heart - St. John Parish was hit the hardest. It is charged the highest assessment rate (44.8%) of any parish in the diocese, and his paying the highest overcharge ($102,813) of any parish in the diocese.
