After the presentation of the condition of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and the required corrective action by the architect and restoration contractor at the Parish Meeting on May 7, 2002, the founding members of this foundation worked diligently with the Pastor to address the required repairs and restoration. Early efforts were focused on immediate and emergency repairs. During this period, numerous meetings with the pastor, architect, and diocese were attended to present and discuss the work in progress and the work to be completed.
Recognizing that an overall long term master plan was required in order to prioritize the work and maximize the benefit of the resources and funds that would be available, the founding members developed an multi-phase comprehensive business plan to address the required repairs to the church and parish property and repay the debt due the diocese.
The first draft of this plan was presented to the pastor and his business manager on August 4, 2005. With the approval of the pastor, the plan was expanded and updated for a presentation to the Parish Finance Committee on June 7, 2006. This plan was finalized and presented to parishioners at a Parish Meeting on November 6, 2006, prior to the announcement of the diocesan catholic school reorganization and school closings. Following this presentation over 250 parishioners signed a Letter of Support for this plan.
The presentation consisted of a Power Point Presentation including 43 slides. Highlights of the plan presented on November 6, 2006 are included in the screens displayed to the left.
Since the presentation was made prior to the closing of Sacred Heart Slovak School, the required repairs to the school are included. As presented in the plan, these were to be addressed in later phases of the project. The Sacred Heart Wilkes-Barre Foundation Inc. is focused on and suggests that the work to be funded involves only the Phase 1 Work in the plan (associated only with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church).
